Turning was not very good as the blank had crushed rock powder making it very hard and prone to chip. But I love the finished product.

In order to get more orange from the blank, I used a propane torch to speed up oxidation. Loved the way it worked.

My only regret was not painting the tube. It shows through the blank a little bit but it didn\'t ruin the overall look.

Lots of pot marks had to fill in the blank because of flower petals. But it\'s smooth now and looks great.

These two custom cast pens were made from maple burl and a combination of blue, white, silver and a bit of green resin. The one on the left represents the cliffs of Grand Canyon with the Colorado River rushing down stream. This one was done for a white water rafter. The one on the right was also cast with a little different mix of the colors to reflect to open ocean with two islands formed by the burl and the anchor placed between both Island indicating the ship was anchored and the crew was heading ashore in the long boats This was made for an open water Yacht owner.
